How to Play 80 Ball Bingo

What is it?

80 Ball bingo is a variation on the popular 75 American bingo incarnation (arguably where it all started on a commercial basis) and is technically a hybrid between the rules of 90 ball bingo and 75 ball bingo. The game itself takes place on a 4x4 bingo card grid with the main objective to mark of all 16 numbers you're allocated.

Numbers are located in the 4 lines & columns and are coloured red, yellow, blue and white. When your number is called out, your colour should also be announced, with certain games awarding you for completing certain lines or colours of lines.

Many of our top bingo houses offer this type of game, so it's best to make sure you're at your peak 80 ball bingo game before stepping foot inside.

Pattern Variations

There can usually be up to 3 main game types. The first type is where players compete to win a single horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. You can also win by marking off four corners or four middle squares.

The next game type involves playing for a particular line to win a prize. With this type of game, prizes are won as each person completes each row, with the main prize reserved for the first to get a full house. Game play is continuous until someone achieves this holy grail of each bingo game.

The third game type is playing for a single vertical line. Like the line prizes, game play can continue as each player marks off a line, ending with whoever gets the full house and shouts BINGO.

A bit of History

80 ball bingo, like many bingo games began in traditional bingo halls to add some variation. It was originally known as shutter board bingo as little shutters were employed to cover numbers as and when they were called out. The name was changed to identify it's hybrid status between it's 75 & 90 ball counterparts.. also, shutters aren't really used anymore. The game quickly came to online bingo halls and has since proved a popular mainstay of the bingo world.

Some online bingo sites will offer huge prizes by linking 80 ball bingo games into progressive jackpots which have an increasing prize pool. If that doesn't tempt you, guaranteed jackpots are also available through this type of bingo.

It's the perfect game for those seeking a bit of a different bingo experience, but don't want to stray too far from the comfort of the 75 & 90 ball games.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start counting those balls!
